14th of February

*Tuesday, 12nd February 2008*

I have another extra activity to do at home lately. I finally installed Internet at home and got it running since Sunday. I wanted to download movies, mp3s, programs but my hard drive capacity is reaching its limit so that will have to wait till I get a new hard drive.

Was on MSN with Savante, Api, AhBong and Fable Frog last night when they mentioned about Valentine's Day (14th February).

Most of the bloggers on the right of the navigation bar are attached and will be celebrating with their significant others. For singles like me and um, perhaps you who're reading this, what does Valentine's Day mean to you?

Mom used to tell us the story of the Chinese Valentine's Day, the Cowherd and the Waiver Maid or Tanabata as the Japanese called it when we were still small. The mortal Niulang (Cowherd, the star Altair or Hikoboshi) married the fairy Zhi Nu (Waiver Maid, the star Vega or Orihime) secretly which was a forbidden act. When Zhi Nu's mother, the Goddess of Heaven found out, she was infuriated and separate the two lovers forever by creating the sky river (Milky Way). Both of them are forced to sit at both side of the river and never be together. But once a year all the magpies in the world take pity on them and fly up into heaven to form a bridge so the lovers may be together for a single night, the seventh night of the seventh moon.

Now I know why HK TVB came out with their latest romance drama named "The Seventh Day" (最美麗的第七天).

Valentine's doesn't necessary mean that you have to do like what the majority does; book a table for candlelight dinner in some poshy restaurants with wine, chocolate, roses and romantic music which might bore a hole in your wallet.

Some might give away teddies or pinky Valentine's Day greeting cards and shiny presents adorned with hearts, arrows and cherubs but how many people would actually keep and re-read them five or ten years later, and laugh on themselves, reminiscing how silly they were last time? My Ex would just chuck the card into the garbage bag. I saw him do that before to the hand made card his fling gave him.

Why would one buys gift only on special occasions like Valentine's or birthdays? Surely, your partner or spouse deserve to be loved and adored everyday!

What does Valentine's mean to you?

I think I'd prefer it if he showed his love every day in simple ways. No need flowers and chocolates.

Valentine's a one-off. If I showered him every now and then with poshy dinners - I'd be broke. :D

We still have all our old cards! Mainly birthday cards, some get-well cards, seasonal greetings...all dating back to primary school! :P We're that nostalgic.

It doesn't have to be a poshy dinner with the whole shebang, even a Sony Ericsson moment also is nice what. And V-Day is just another day among the many days you'd be doing things that make others vomit from over-sweetness. :P
